Introduction
Rampur is a small town, around 60 km from bareilly towards New Delhi. The Nawab of the Rampur, His Royal Highness Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur created this breed by mixing the blood lines of Tazi of Afghanistan and English Grey Hound of UK, and gave it a name Rampur Hound. This Breed does not have a long history, when Afghan came to India they brought with them Tazi. This dog was very powerful, ferocious and can tolerate any climate but they were untamable.Tazis were used for hunting Bull and deer’s. When British came to India they brought English Grey Hound with them, a very obedient dog, but the Indian climate was unsuitable for the grey hounds, so The Nawab Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur mixed these two bloodlines and gave us a new breed Rampur Hound. During early 19th century these dogs were in great demand. In west Bengal these dogs were known as Soriala.
Types Of Rampur Hound:
There is still lot of confusion regarding types of rampur hound available, I have tried myself to find out regarding types of rampur hound available, although lot of people claim that there are three types of Rampur Hound
A) Reza: They are little timid in nature and Hunt Smaller Animals, very homely and playful in nature
B) Kesari: Rarest of all Rampur Hound, they look like somewhat Deer Hound. They are hostiles at time. They have long coat.
C) Sahi Shikari : They are royal , very strongly built and have powerful jaws, very temperamental in nature and they hunt big games like Neil Gaya ( Blue Bull ), even they can attack a tiger daringly.
But I still believe Sahi Shikari are the real rampur hound and rest are bit mixed breeds

Grooming
I have always considered Rampur hound as a ambassador car,as far grooming is concerned , it do not require much grooming only use gloves will keep the coat shining .
Behavioral Pattern
They are royale by nature and are very fond of human company particularly they love Children. Make sure if you have this breed at home do take care of your curtains or clothes, because as I said earlier they are royal by nature, they will not like to lie down on the floor, they have tendency to pull down curtain or clothes and will lie on it. They are also lazy by nature, their looks can be deceptive and strangers dare not trespass as they are known to be ferocious attackers and will not tolerate unknown faces.
